Meet our team at Riverside Pediatrics! Please take a few moments to learn about our skilled practitioners and our friendly, nurturing staff.

At Riverside Pediatrics, we consider it both a great joy and responsibility to care for children. Most of us are parents ourselves, so we strive to be understanding and available to the families we are privileged to serve. We are honored that you have chosen us as your child's primary medical provider and are confident that you will be pleased with the quality of care and service that we can provide you and your family.

A vital part of our service to children begins with our outstanding staff who works hard to manage and maintain a professional, caring and supportive environment for our patients in a timely manner. Our doctors are lifelong learners. Not only have they received advanced medical training in pediatrics, they continually pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest in child health care.

Your child's health is as important to us as it is to you. We look forward to providing you with excellent medical care your child deserves.

Meet our Doctors

Dr. Leah Higginbotham

Dr. Leah Higginbotham is the newest addition to the Riverside family. She was born and raised in Minnesota but now considers herself a southern transplant. She graduated medical school from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX. She completed her residency at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham and was in private practice in Nashville, TN prior to joining Riverside Pediatrics in 2009. She is board certified in pediatrics through the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics.  She enjoys practice in all areas of pediatrics but she especially enjoys the relationships that develop with families as their children grow and mature.  She is an advocate of early reading and encourages parents to read to their children daily.

Living in Johnson City, TN she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. Often you may see her at her daughter’s swim meet or a Girl Scout event.  Her family enjoys participating in the many outdoor activities that the area has to offer and she nurtures her musical side by taking piano lessons.

Dr. Tammy Kitchens

Dr. Tammy Kitchens is a board certified pediatrician who grew up in Kansas but now calls Tennessee her home. She graduated from the University Of Kansas School Of Medicine in 1992 and completed her residency training in 1995 at Keesler Medical Center, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. Dr. Kitchens spent 4 more years in the Air Force taking care of the military’s children before making Tennessee her home. In addition to practicing pediatrics in Elizabethton, she also is the medical consultant for the Center of Excellence and a fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Kitchens and her husband have two adolescent daughters, one is very active in soccer and the other is a competitive horseback rider. Dr. Kitchens loves to knit, exercise, and watch her girls participate in their sports.

Dr. Kitchens sees children and adolescents of all ages and has special interests in children that have difficulties in school, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Dr. Rachel Hecht

Dr. Rachel Hecht is a board certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has practiced in Elizabethton since 2002. A graduate of Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, she completed her pediatric training at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville.

Dr. Hecht sees her patients as whole, growing individuals. Preventive medicine, childhood vaccinations, healthy eating, and keeping children active are the tools she encourages using to help her patients grow strong, healthy and fulfilled. She loves helping her patients grow and watching as they develop into healthy young adults.

Dr. Hecht, her husband, Dave and their two daughters have lived in the area since 2001. Coming from Louisiana and Florida, Dr. Hecht finds the mountains and four seasons of East Tennessee refreshing. When not in the office or with her daughters at the soccer field, Dr. Hecht can be found swimming, walking three or more dogs, or riding horses.
